This highly acclaimed female group, and series of shows conceived, produced and directed by Margot Malone, features up to 20 of Nevada County's finest vocalists backed by a "live" combo.

Broadway, Baby! #2 in the series, is a "blast from the past" filled with Broadway classics, with a little jazz & blues, and a lot of fun as these sassy ladies take the stage with special guests: Bruce Kelly, Wayne Powers, and Michael Ballard.

If you saw the last show you won't want to miss this one! Reviewers rave "Red Hot they are!!" (The Union 2007). So, if you've never seen the Sultry Ladies and Red Hot Mamas this is the show you have been waiting for.

Cheryl Maxwell
Close
Cheryl has studied voice, dance and majored in theatre in Southern California. She has been a member of Community Players since 1983 and has performed in over 25 musicals such as Paint Your Wagon, Oklahoma, Gypsy and Godspell. She was recently in Come Back to the Five and Dime, Jimmy Dean, Jimmy Dean.

Michael Ballard

After playing the trumpet in school, Michael started singing in the Nevada Union High School Choir in 1980. Michael has been a member of the Sierra College Choir and has been singing bass in various choral groups. This is Michael's debut season with the Sultry Ladies production.

Ronna Lee Joseph Murray

When Ronna Lee was 7, little miss dynamite soloed at the BlackHawk Restaurant in Chicago and at 9, studied opera at the Chicago Conservatory of Music. Ronna Lee has also portrayed numerous character roles and been involved in many aspects of over 50 musical theatre productions, including the bawdy, Cheri in .Paint Your Wagon. presented at The Gateway Pavillion.

Wayne Powers/ Tami Cooke

Wayne's list of accomplishments include numerous concerts and singing engagements throughout our community. He has performed as a percussionist/drummer and singer. He made his acting debut in Guys and Dolls and then landed the role of Henry Higgins in My Fair Lady. He is owner and executive producer of his locally based Powernett Productions.

Tami has been involved with music since she was a youngster. Her great encourager was her grandfather. Tami has sung in both school and church choirs and has been on two albums. She toured with the Continental Singers and Orchestra in 1985. Tami currently is a member of her church vocal team, connected with PowerNett Productions and is now honored to be a part of the Sultry Ladies.

Melody Beebe

Melody, a Columbus, OH native has lived in the area since 1985. She has been singing in church for the past 12 years. She has been a soloist for Penn Valley Community Church and for the Sierra Center for Positive Living. She performed in the production of I'll Be Seeing You and Oliver.

Bruce Kelly
Close
Bruce has lived in the area for 17 years. He moved from Los Angeles, where he performed with some of the city's top jazz musicians. He and his wife found Cheap Suit Productions. They have mounted several theatrical productions and two big band shows. He has acted in many plays including "A Few Good Men" and the upcoming show "On The Water Front" in August of this year.

Lisa LeClaire/ Michael Ballard

Lisa began singing at the age of twenty and is a contralto mezzo soprano. She has performed at many open mic performances and has appeared on Bay Area cable access. Over the years she has enjoyed songwriting, playing the harp, and studying a broad jazz vocal repertoire. Lisa is very excited to be part of the Red Hot Mamas and Sultry Ladies.

Flanders Setchel

With 20+ years of schlepping backstage, Flanders hit the footlights with South Pacific as Bloody Mary and is enjoying her second year with the Sultry Ladies. "Thank you for being a part of the audience! Enjoy the show!"

Maureen Peake

One of the original Sultry Ladies/Red Hot Mamas, Maureen has also done several shows with Community Players. She studied theatre, arts and music at St. Edwards University in Austin, TX and spent the next few years performing professionally in Boston, MA.

Yvette Cadeaux

Yvette studied voice in college. After receiving her Master's degree in Education, she performed for 7 years with jazz-swing group The Mood Swings. While living on the east coast she directed AcapellaKids, a children's vocal ensemble. Yvette moved to Grass Valley in 2004. She teaches journalism, voice and is a vocal coach for PAG.

Kristine Alcamo-Williams Linda Stanley

Kristine's family moved to the Grass Valley area in the 1970's. She has grown up around music most of her life, and has taken part in a few professional theatrical productions, as well as some of the smaller, local events and contests. Kristine's continued inspiration comes from her family whose continued support is greatly appreciated.

Linda has been involved in community theatre for the past 25 years. 2 and one-half years with Auburn Community Theatre, 4 years with Music in the Mountains, and 12+ years as house manager for the Community Players. She as also played in many Community Players Productions.
The Band: Spontaneous Combustion
Roger Shimoff (Bass)

This is Roger's second stint with The Sultry Ladies and Red Hot Mama's in their band Spontaneous Combustion. Roger's signature style of playing bass weaves a masterful bottom end to everything Roger puts his hand to from Jazz and blues to cabaret and Broadway tunes. Roger has a huge following as bassman for the local band Ocean's Three, most recently seen at The Holbrook. Roger and his wife, one of our own Sultry Ladies, Barbara Lynn Shimoff, and their band Ocean's Three are available for private parties and performances.
Rick Gibson (Drummer)

Rick is a newcomer to Grass Valley having moved here from Chico. He was born in Santa Rosa, got an electronics degree in the seventies. Rick has played with just about every kind of band you can imagine, Charlie Robinson, and Charlie Haynes. Jazz and blues is Rick's specialty. And he is currently playing drums with award nominated Chico band, The Groove Diggers, and local band, Ocean's Three.
Marian Nowakowski (Piano)

Marian is a resident of Lincoln where she teaches piano. Marian makes a lovely addition to the Sultry Ladies line-up and adds her own unique style and a bit of new technology to our endeavors. She has a keen interest in musical technology and keeps up to date on current trends and techniques, and equipment. Marian is having a blast. Look for her in local upcoming performances.

Tim Murray - Tech Lighting and Graphic Artist

Tim has been involved seriously in local theatre since performing in .Paint Your Wagon. in 1999. Tim is a singer-song-writer, illustrator & graphic designer, who dreams up the delightful posters depicting "Sultry Ladies". Tim is currently the art director for Community Players and on the Board of Directors.
